Minfei received Becholer's degree with Outstanding Graduate Award of Nanjing University, where he attended national Undergraduate Training Program for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and carried out thesis project at National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, China. During his undergraduate study, he was elected as the only school representative of College of Engineering & Applied Sciences to the Student Representative Council, Nanjing University. He was an Undergraduate Visiting Scholar, at DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland WA, under the supervision of Dr Scott Chambers and Dr Chongmin Wang. Minfei carrried out his Master's project at Rice University, Houston TX, under the supervision of Dept Chair, Professor Pulickel Ajayan.

Minfei is a recipient of several academic or non-academic awards, including People’s Scholarship, industry scholarship, Outstanding Student Leader Award, Excellent Volunteer Award for multiple times. Minfei also received three travel grants to several U.S. universities, and attended a few international conferences. Minfei is now a Fellow of Cambridge Philosophical Society. He is webmaster of MCG group.

Minfei is also co-supervised by Professor Caterina Ducati.

Research interests

Minfei is currently interested in advanced electron microscopy characterization of nanostructured materials for energy applications and energy storage devices. He has had several projects on fuel cell, catalysis and electrochemistry before. He is exploring fabrication of novel lithium-based batteries, sensing systems for monitoring of gaseous evolution, and advanced electron microscopy studies.

Non-research interests

Minfei has a wide range of interests and hobbies, from playing dulcimer to calligraphy. He was also trained for table tennis for quite several years. He bas been engaged in more than 200 hours' of volunteer work before. He enjoys music and reading for relaxation. He likes animals, particularly dogs.
