We are excited to share that MCG PhD candidate Minfei has passed his viva recently, and was approved by the Degree Committee without correction, being the second student of Professor Vasant's career, and one of the very few students from the whole Department in recent years, to have achieved this.

Minfei's Thesis, titled "Molecular-level interphase design for sustainable batteries", and viva, received high recognition by both Internal Examiner and External Examiner. A full evaluation of the Examiners’ joint report and part of their independent recommendations are as follows:
“Minfei Fei defended his PhD research and thesis enthusiastically showing an excellent understanding of the field and a solid understanding of his results. The breadth and depth of Minfei’s knowledge in the field of materials science in general was impressive - he was able to apply theory and experimental literature to effectively answer questions with detail, depth and enthusiasm. The thesis is of high quality throughout, and the results are a major development towards next generation Li and Na-ion batteries through his impressive validation of molecular level interphase design. The thesis is well written and nicely organised. Minfei gave a superb viva with no corrections.”
Internal Examiner: “An impressive thesis and a very enjoyable read throughout.”
External Examiner: “The dissertation by Minfei Fei reports an impressive amount of high-quality results that significantly contribute towards the development of better batteries.”
